CoEd Rec Season Review

After having four fairly successful indoor campaigns in both the "B" and "C" leagues, BSFC was looking for a successful Bundesliga season with a second straight trip to the Bundesliga Rec League Finals.  After the first two games of the season, BSFC was just praying for a win...  In their first game, against eventual league Finalist Calamaris, called Valerio's then, BSFC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Captain Corey Wolff.  That was the onlyl good point of the game as Valerios/Calamaris would go on to lead 4-1 at halftime and finish with a 9-2 victory.  BSFC had a solid second half in their second game against Bill's Auto Body, but it was not enough as they would fall to former BSFC-mate Roger Dougan's team, 5-9.  After allowing 18 goals in two games, BSFC made some changes that everyone knew needed to be made.  Forward Josh Wolff was moved back to sweeper, Brian Kaleta, when he was able to play with BSFC, would be stopper and they also added more talent with the likes of four college players:  Jeremy Blymiller (California University of PA), Scott Burick (Penn State - Greensburg), Elise Dauber (Delaware Valley) and Hallie Robertson (South Alabama University/Bloomsburg College).  These changes would pay off as BSFC began a 4-game win streak.  Their first win was a 3-0 win over The Lake Charles Ice Pirates and then a 6-3 victory over FFSP Spiders.  Both of these teams ended up at the very bottom of the standings.  In their next two matches, BSFC faced Top 3 opponents in undefeated, first-place Uptown and undefeated, third-place PASC.  BSFC jumped to an early 2-0 lead over Uptown and were able to hold off Uptown's late surge as they were able to hold on for a 5-3 win.  After being down twice early to PASC, BSFC tied the score and opened up in the second half for their fourth victory in a 5-2 defeat of PASC.  BSFC handed both teams their first loss of the season (Uptown's only regular season loss).  Looking for a fifth-straight win, BSFC played the Lion Eaters, a team that had been up-and-down throughout the season.  BSFC played the whole game shorthanded and ended up losing a well-battled match 1-2.  They then faced second-place The Sauce, a team that clearly should have been in the competitive league.  BSFC played a horrible game and allowed Matt Proper and The Sauce to run all over them.  Proper scored six goals in the 1-8 defeat of BSFC.  After falling back to even at 4-4, BSFC played the final two games against lower teams.  The Loco Ochos, who they defeated 7-1, were near the bottom of the standings and Tigons, who finished in the 8th and last playoff spot.  After the demolishing of Loco Ochos, BSFC had another goalfest in an 8-1 defeat of the Tigons.  After PASC tied J. Duchini Trucking, BSFC moved up to 5th place via the head-to-head tiebreaker with PASC.  #5 seed BSFC faced the #4 seeded Ligers in the Opening Round of the playoffs.  BSFC easily defeated the Ligers, 3-1.  In the other games #1 seeded The Sauce were handed the semifinal spot via a forfeit from #8 Tigons; #2 Calamaris played a well-battled game as they defeated #7 Bill's Auto Body, 4-2; #3 Uptown narrowly defeated #6 PASC, 3-2.  In a rematch with The Sauce, BSFC found themselves ahead early 2-0 with quick goals from Elise Dauber and Mike Cifelli.  The Sauce would narrow the lead to 2-1 at halftime and would find themselves leading 5-2 early in the second half.  BSFC would only be able to add one more goal with a great goal by Mike Goodelle as they fell 3-5 to #1-seeded The Sauce.  Calamaris needed two extra ten minute sessions of play to defeat Uptown.  Calamaris won 4-3 in overtime.  In the Finals, Calamari's found themselves up 2-0 early (just as BSFC had been) over the Sauce, but went into the half tied at two.  The Sauce would score the only two goals of the second half for the Bundesliga Rec League Championship and Calamaris would receive their first loss of the season as they finished as the Bundesliga Rec League Finalist.

CoEd B Spring 2006 Report Card

Their first game would earn a straight out F-, if there were such a thing.  Their second game, being not too much better but slightly improved, would bring that F- to an F.  The four game win streak, victories over two undefeated teams and the shorthanded one-goal loss greatly improved the grade to a B+.  The collapse against the eventual league champions dropped them to a C, but their impressive play in their last two games of the season brought them back to an B.  The quarterfinal victory over #4-seeded Ligers brought the B to a B+ and then there was the second-half collapse in the 3-5 loss to eventual league champions.  This loss brought the grade...
OVERALL GRADE:  ... to an A.  Yes, that's right.  A loss brought a B+ up to an A.  BSFC had some very low points during the season, but also had some very high points during the season.  There were only two losses in which BSFC completely fell apart.  There were two losses in which BSFC did everything they could, yet still loss and then The Sauce simply wanted the victory more than BSFC in the semifinal loss.  Despite an early semifinal exit, nothing to be ashamed of after this season.
