LECOM One (1-0-0) 10 : 8 BSFC Arsenal (0-1-0)

Too Little Too Late; LECOM Avenges Championship Loss

BSFC looked to start the new season off with a win after they had just defeated their opponents a week ago in the Winter I 2007 Silver Championship.  BSFC still doesn't know what happened, but they do know for a fact... they all picked the wrong day to be off.  LECOM scored first, but BSFC answered back quickly as Lauren MacWhirter (BSFC indoor debut) assisted to Corey Wolff.  LECOM scored their second goal and, again, BSFC replied quickly as Robbie Ortiz assisted to Nick Kaliszewski. LECOM scored three straight goals to claim a 5-2 lead, but MacWhirter recorded her second assist as Greg Kenawell (BSFC debut) poked the ball past the keeper for a 5-3 LECOM lead at the half.  LECOM started the second half with four consecutive goals to stake a 9-3 lead.  Play returned to even as BSFC was unable to get anything going.  Then the comeback started...  MacWhirter scored on an assist from Kaliszewski to make it 9-4.  Then the comeback ended... LECOM, just seconds later, took the kick-off and scored to make it 10-4.  Then the second comeback started...  In a three minute span, Ortiz scored three goals and Kaliszewski scored his second goal of the game to cut the lead to 10-8.  Then the second comeback ended... as the buzzer sounded and BSFC walked off the field disgusted with themselves.
Game Notes:  Dating back to last season, Corey Wolff has three consecutive games with a goal (5 goals); Robbie Ortiz has four straight games with a goal (9 goals);  Nick Kaliszewski has three straight games with a goal scored (4 goals)...
Player Notes:  Despite having emergency appendectomy a little over a week ago, Ashley Covatto is expected to make her season debut in BSFC's second game.

BSFC Arsenal (1-1-0) 6 : 4 United (1-1-0)

BSFC Holds Off United; Earns First Ever C-League Victory

After evaluating their loss to LECOM, BSFC recognized that they needed to have a stronger first half... especially against powerhouse United.  Greg Kenawell scored a few minutes into the game to give BSFC a 1-0 lead, but United quickly answered back tying the game at one.  BSFC would regain the lead on a Robbie Ortiz goal that was misplayed by the keeper and then take a 3-1 lead when Ortiz assisted to Nick Kaliszewski.  United cut the lead in half again, but Ortiz scored his second goal of the game as he blasted a shot into the lower right corner of the net.  BSFC felt good about their strong first half performance as they held a 4-2 halftime lead, but knew they would have to finish just as strong to pull out the victory.  United scored immediately in the second half to cut the lead to 4-3, but BSFC scored two goals (Kenawell and Ashley Covatto) over the next 17 minutes to build a 6-3 lead.  Over this span, BSFC played solid defense in keeping United out of the net.  With seven minutes remaining, United scored to cut the deficit to 6-4, but would not get any closer as BSFC collectively played great for the final six minutes.
Player Notes:  Dating back to last season, Robbie Ortiz now has five straight games with a goal scored (11 goals); Nick Kaliszewski now has four straight games with a goal scored (5 goals)... Corey Wolff's goal scoring streak ended at three consecutive games... Ashley Covatto made her season debut and scored a crucial goal while playing sparingly...
    Players Missing:  Lindsay Brinchi (injury)

Penncrest (3-0-0) 6 : 5 BSFC Arsenal (1-2-0)

Comeback Not Enough to Overcome Poor Team Play

BSFC was looking for their first back-to-back wins of the season after defeating powerhouse United for the first time in their C-League career.  Unfortunately, after their team work shined against United, poor team play haunted them.  Play started even for the first six minutes of the game before a Penncrest attacker blew past BSFC's defense and poked the ball past keeper Gerimee Gervais.  Shortly after, Kyle Means assisted to Robbie Ortiz to tie the game at one and this would be the closest BSFC would get the rest of the game.  Penncrest scored three more first half goals sandwiched around an Ortiz goal for BSFC to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.  In the second half, Means scored his first goal of the season to cut the deficit in half, but Penncrest scored two goals over the next twelve minutes to build a 6-3 lead with eight minutes remaining.  Means and Aaron Contreras each scored to bring it to a 6-5 deficit, but BSFC would not be able to convert another goal, despite out-shooting Penncrest, 6-2, in the final 90 seconds of the game.
Player Notes:  Gerimee Gervais played in his 100th career game... Dating back to last season, Robbie Ortiz has scored in six straight games (13 goals)... Keriann Bottoni made her BSFC debut... Lauren MacWhirter has left the team for personal reasons...
Players Missing:  Nick Kaliszewski (business conflict), Greg Kenawell (academic conflict), Lindsay Brinchi left at halftime (athletic conflict), Ashley Covatto left at halftime (illness)
